…and so to Cardiff…

the sun shone strong and clear all. bloody. day.  and Cardiff is a gorgeous city.  well – the bits we saw, anyway (which, admittedly, wasn’t a very great deal).

there’s been a lot of regenertion going on in the city, with some interesting and unusually-shaped buildings.  this one, for instance, has a plan view in a propeller-like shape:

i just love the way they’ve kept the facade of the old building and incorporated it into the modern structure.  it may jar, but i kinda like that it does. 🙂

and then we have The Golden cross, just down the street from the above building, which is decorated in that beautiful glazed tile and stained glass that was so popular, once upon a time…

…aaaahhh…  so that’s where i left them…

heading off in the direction of the bay, there was this, gorgeous sculpture…

tried to be arty with this, again – kinda liked the way the light fell across the fingers and palm…

and so down to the bay, and the hunt for Torchwood….

…or maybe just a self-portrait…

i was charged with the stern duty of finding the entrance to The Hub, on my visit – despite the fact that i seem to remember rather a large explosion in the last episode…  however, someone must have been busy…

foooound iiiiit! 😀

…er…  i think…. i honestly couldn’t remember which side it was on, but i think i got it right…  besides which, i was far more interested in the building on the other side of the plaza…

“in these stones horizons sing”

in letters ten feet high.

beautiful.

…and here’s a little more of it… i just absolutely love this building – it’s beautiful inside and out.  and it shines in the sun so you can see it for miles.  i first saw it IRL from a different country, FFS!  across the sea! 😀

later on, we discovered why it was that so much sci-fi TV has been based here.  clearly, the aliens have already landed…

so after larking around in the glorious sunshine all day, oohing and aaahing at architecture and sunlit sea, it finally came time for the original purpose of our visit.  i took no photos, no video.  i didn’t want the distraction.  thankfully, though, others did.  there’s a bit of a bassy thundering rumble on this, and the video’s not great quality, but i looooove this song!…:

this is better quality, another of my favourites, not least for the line “The moon is out looking for trouble / the moon wants a scrap or a cuddle”

we were right at the front, and had a bloody fabulous time! 😀  there was no mad leaping around, no crush, and the music was just… *sigh* …heaven.

a  wonderful day, and a wonderful evening.  happy Squeaky was very, very happy. ^_^

(third and final part coming soon, to a blog post near you…)
